Henley management experience requirements: Everything you need to know
Diverse backgrounds | Real-world expertise| Management practice
What is management experience?
Contrary to popular belief, overseeing a team of people is just one of many ways you can gain management experience.
At Henley, we recognise that management experience is about a wider set of skills, knowledge and practice. Maybe you have led a project, tackled a complex challenge, or been involved in making strategic decisions for the business. If so, you would have gained valuable experience planning, organising, leading, and controlling organisational activities. That’s management practice.
In other words, even if you have never had the term “manager” in your job title, you may have been practising management for many years and we encourage you to apply. We welcome all students who can demonstrate that they have the essential capabilities to thrive in the dynamic world of business.
Why do we want experienced managers on some of our programmes?

Join us and become part of a community of seasoned professionals who will enhance your learning journey and empower you to excel in your career.
Do you qualify? The Henley management practice checklist
There’s a good chance that you have some critical management skills in your career. This could include setting goals, allocating resources, guiding employees, and making informed decisions. Use the checklist below to see if what you have done counts.
Have you ever:
- Been involved in strategic planning and decision-making, the objectives and effects of which are measured outside standard operational activities?
- Coordinated the work of others in a team, whether internal or external to your working environment and whether corporate, project or event based?
- Been responsible for meeting financial targets that rely on the efforts of more than one person?
- Been required to structure and order your work activities for more than one month to solve problems and deliver results?
- Managed specific projects or teams within or outside the organisation. Can you clarify the size and nature of the tasks and how you handled or directed others?
- Had a clearly defined responsibility for improving the performance of people, innovation, creative output, processes or technology, whether for internal or external application?
- Worked internationally or in a multicultural setting?
You can use examples of these capabilities in your application to Henley programmes, where management experience is a criterion for admission.
